All of my lamps start life as either driftwood or forest floor items. The process that I use is to initially treat the timber against insect and worm disease and then clean the wood from all mud, sand or debris. Any rot or decayed timber is then removed and the timber is treated again. This is when the shape and form start to appear.
Now the final shaping and cleaning takes place to ensure that the lamp is practical to use and child friendly while still upholding the beauty of its natural form. The cable hole is then drilled. The plinth or feet are then chosen depending on the form that has developed and Danish oil is used to ensure the overall protection of the wood. Finally the lamps are electrically wired and individually tested by a qualified PAT registered electrician. |
